First sail in the new boat at Pine Lake

Family tradition dictated that the first outing in a new boat should be at Pine Lake, it being the nearest non-tidal sailing water available. The wind was very light but that didn't stop Jacob's enjoyment of his new craft. More distance was covered using the oars than sails, but plenty of practice was had in setting and furling the sail. Next time maybe we'll have some more wind to play with.

Welsh Highland Steam Gala, May 2009

A bit late posting this but I have just started editing a few videos to share. A great weekend with lots of trains to watch, both on the Welsh Highland Heritage line and the Ffestiniog. Not to mention a good narrow gauge model exhibition in the Canolfan. Finished the weekend with a trip down Llechwedd deep mine. Here's a bit of video of the Welsh Highland.

Bleep test

The BFR circuits group who meet at Brookhouse every Monday did the bleep test today, followed by some core strength exercises and a celebratory meal at the Station. This is Chris's heart rate monitor trace, maxing out at 175 bpm. Need to get fitter!

British Blokart Champs Ainsdale 28th/29th June

I thought it was about time I posted some news on here, so here's a little about the Blokart Champs weekend at Ainsdale. The wind blew, sometimes not quite strongly enough, but we managed a total of 12 races, 10 of 15 minutes and the last 2 just 10 minutes. The start box was about half-way along the upwind leg of the course and there was a lot to be gained by crossing the line at the best time. Even so the finishing order in each race was nearly the same each time!

Jacob picked up a prize for most improved sailor, since he started off barely managing to get around the course but by the end of the weekend was racing for all he was worth.
